How to get thereThis commune is located to the south of Cochamó and in the Reloncaví Estuary to the north of Chaitén, to the east of the coast and to the west to Argentina. The crossing to get here is interesting and adventurous. To arrive at Hornopirén-Río Negro from Puerto Montt, it is necessary to take the route 7 that leads to the famous and exotic Carretera Austral, which from the km 23 in the area of Quillaipe turns to be a dirt road untill arrive at Caleta La Arena, where you must board a ferry, here you can appreciate landscapes with cliffs, hills, islands, dense woods, salmon cages, “choritos” cultive and sea lyons colonies. This journey crosses the Reloncaví Estuary in approximately half an hour, while you can appreciate the southern nature in its maximum magnificence, in the forest of on-thousand-year millenaries Larchs in the National Andean Larch Park (Parque Nacional Alerce Andino). From Caleta La Arena, the ferries cross during the whole day to Caleta Puelche, from 7:15 am to 8:45 pm in the summer and until 7:15 pm in the winter. Arrivng at Caleta Puelche you take the Carretera Austral once again until arrive at Hornopirén. There is also public transportation that departs everyday from the bus station in Puerto Montt to Hornopirén. This town also has an aerodrome, Hornopirén, which can coordinate arrivals and departures with Puerto Montt’s airport, El Tepual. Coming from south, is possible to arrive there in a ferry from Caleta Gonzalo in Chaitén, saling by the coast and enjoying an unique landscape. |
