How to get there

Palena always has been characterized by the difficulty in its connectivity with the rest of the territory, however, there is the access through the Carretera Austral, which facilitates the arrival to this zone.

From Chaitén the only land road to the south is the Carretera Austral, from there until before a town called El Amarillo, you have pavement road. From there on the road will wonder those who make this journey with the most impetuous mountain landscapes.

When arriving at Santa Lucía’s town, you must take the route to the east and go ahead for 31 kilometers until arriving at Puerto Ramírez, from there the route 235 must be taken, then go southeast 51 kms until arriving at Palena.

You can also arrive from Argentina, wether by car or public transportation, through the international frontier path Río Encuentro which is only five kilometers away from Palena commune.

By plane is another way of getting to Palena, cause it counts with the aerodrome Alto Palena, which must be coordinated previously with El Tepual airport in Puerto Montt or with Chaitén aerodrome; Chaitén.
